Optus offering 50% off bill due to COVID-19 (Scam call) reported by


A lady was on the phone and spoke very unclear with a poor connection. They were offering 50% off bill and a new iPhone 12. They asked for my Name, Birthday and sent me a pin from the actual Optus service number. They asked for the pin. Once they asked about my billing address I stoped the call and reported it to Optus.

Offering 50% off bill and a new phone. Spoke very fast and unclear. When I asked you confirm who was calling they stuttered before repeating “the optus billing department” then continued to ask if I wanted them to proceed with the free upgrade. Hung up as soon as I said no.

Pretending to be Optus offering me 50% discount. I asked them to give me my account number and they said they weren't allowed to. I asked them to give me my name and they hung up. I called back to check the number and the answer was "Thank you for calling Optus billing department". Definitely scam, especially considering how quick they answered the call :-))

Scam offering 50% off my mobile bill for 3 months because of covid. They sent me a verification text message to verify that they were optus when I was sceptical as to who they were. The message came from the same number that Optus use to communicate with me so I believed it was them and gave them my DOB and email address. When they started asking for my driver's license I became sceptical again and refused to give the info thery wanted.

Called offering a "COVID-19" 50% discount on my Optus bill but kept fishing for personal details. Confirmed with Optus via their customer support that this was indeed a scam and they have notified police. Scary this is that they were able to send a PIN verification SMS from the Optus service number.
