LOOK OUT PEOPLE< CALLERS SAYING THEY ARE "TELSTRA" PHONE SCAM. If someone with a strangely Indian accent phones you, says they are from Telstra and your Internet is full of viruses and they are going to cut it off tomorrow and can you give them remote access to your computer, it's a SCAM SCAM SCAM. The phone number they are or were calling from is 0280051472. Ask them if this is their number, they will hang up on you. They are NOT Telstra, and though they variously say their sames are Kevin Parker, Eric Betz and so on, and their address is Miller St North Sydney, Exhibition St Sydney, Exhibition St, Melbourne. I bet they're in Delhi or Mumbai ... that number, 0280051472 is on Google as lots of queries from people about whether it's a scam ... if you phone the number the ring tone sounds ... not Australian ..... and the person who answers sounds Indian and suss and doesn't want to get the supervisor for you ...BEWARE .....Telstra Unwelcome Calls 1800805996, SCAM WATCH 1300795995.

IT "help" with internet connection (Company) reported by Gracious
20.6.17 A guy called me. Strong Indian accent and not easy to understand. He insisted on first giving me a reference number for this call - 1921681250 - and his Telstra Employment ID - AJ860053. I asked for his name - Alex. He said the main Telstra internet server had detected that I was using an old connection which needed to be upgraded to the new one. I am not with Telstra, so that raised an alarm but I didn't tell him that and kept him talking. Because I thought he might be talking about the NBN it was enough to arouse my curiosity. He asked me to type something into my laptop, which I would not do. I asked him for a Telstra phone number so I could verify that he was actually ringing from Telstra, and he gave me 0280051472. It didn't look like a number Telstra would use, so I Googled and found this. I'm very glad I did. I consider myself quite tech savvy, but this guy almost got me, they are getting that clever.

M* A* from Telstra (Scam call) reported by Peter
Caller identified himself as from Telstra informing me that they had detected my computer being infected or infecting their system. He wanted me to press various keys, but I told him nothing happens as we had no power. He said he would ring back tomorrow (3/3/17) so I said we probably wouldn't have power back by then. I got his number (*), name (M* A* - but he spoke with a strong Indian accent) and his identity number (*) so that I could ring him when I got power. Definitely a spam call as I have had several sounding the same but slightly different names and numbers over the last several weeks - always 0280xx numbers and Indian sounding.
