The caller stated my card was compromised. This was followed up with an sms to state the same thing. I do not possess a Citibank credit card, and this is not a Citibank phone number.

I called back the bank directly on another number, after speaking to them and looking at our records, they said this number 0280272000 is legitimate and it was them. They advised they are cancelling our current credit card and issuing another because they can see someone is trying to use our card, but not supplying the 3 digit code. I am so grateful for their professional service.

Caller asked to speak with "person name" [we have an employee with same unusual surname]. When I asked who was calling and why [we get a lot of spam calls asking for this particular employee name] , he said he was from Coles and wanted to speak with xx. I asked as in Coles Supermarket and he said Yes. I asked what the call is about, and he said he was looking for an employment verfication for that person. I sarcastically said well that doesn't sound right, if you want to verify someones employment you don't need to speak with that person? he replied 'mmm. I just need to speak with xxx. I said that to verify whether a person works at our business and/or to obtain a reference he needed to put in writing. He asked for the email address which i supplied our generic enquiries email address. IMO this mob obtain information via sharing of our financial information and use it sell something.

Turns out this staff member is expecting Coles to very his employment because the Given name on his passport etc is different to the day to day Given name he uses. For a financial institution that doesn't allow it's customers to read their own account statement without typing in a password, their call centre is comparably unprofessional.

Call was regarding disputed transactions on my Qantas Premier card. Didn’t ask to verify any personal details so I had no issues sharing. The bigger problem is there is no acknowledgment that I already discussed this with the customer service team (the phone number on the back of the card), case numbers for the disputed transactions have already been raised, the card has been cancelled and a replacement is on its way...that’s why it seems completely dodgy.
