I signed a petition for water aid a couple of days ago. They started asking me if I knew much about what they did. I shut down the conversation politely and they thanked me for my time.

Cold call but that they had my number isn't a surprise -- they were calling on behalf of a non-profit to which I regularly donate. Seemed to just be confirming donator details.

This number must be part of the range of numbers dedicated to the same call centre - I can see more similar numbers of the same range 02806450xx reported already, mostly with non-profit orgs. In the case of this number they left no message, no idea who is behind it? People please did someone answer it? I really don't answer unknown numbers and don't want to call them back, trying to dig some info about this number on internet first...

MikeOne, have you ever donated to MSF (Doctors Without Borders)? If you have, it's probably them. I never received nuisance calls before I donated to MSF, now I get calls from their Sydney call centre at least once a month. They are known for regularly harassing people for more money. This number has called me three times, ever since I stopped donating and made a formal complaint to MSF about their nuisance calls. I never answer because by now I know it's them. Non-profits will never leave a message – if someone (eg a business) was calling you for a legitimate reason, they would leave a message, so don't worry about missing an important call of you don't pick up. Just do what I do: decline the call and block the number. You don't have to answer.
