Male with subcontinental accent claiming to be from the "accident claims department", wanting to discuss a recent car accident. I told him that I don't provide information like that to unsolicited callers and he should "pop the details in the post" and I would deal with it when I got his letter. It was obviously too challenging for him and he ended the call.

This person with a very heavy Indian accent called regarding an accident 10 weeks ago. He stated the accident had not be resolved and had a $5000 payout to each person. When I turned the tables on him, firstly telling him I didn't understand him, what his name was, what his phone number was, where he worked (Newcastle NSW apparently) and then telling him I was not going to give him any details of me, he hung up. I called the number back and it simply rang out and reported him to my insurance company as this smells to me like ID theft! How he knew there was an accident in the first instance is quite disturbing. Perhaps an Ombudsman needs to be informed tomorrow...

Called regarding car accident compensation for an accident that was "not my fault" (Call centre) reported by iPeter
Female caller with a subcontinental accent said that I could get compensation for a rear-hit accident that "had occurred in the last year" and was not my fault. I asked for more information about the event (because it must have slipped my memory (maybe it never happened? :))) After a few more questions from me the caller hung up abruptly.

The scammer on the other end of the line asks the receiver of the call if they have been in a road accident lately and claims to be from a company that investigates crashes. The scammer asks for personal details such as name, date of birth, car rego, driver’s licence and bank details.
