Claimed to be he is from Australian Taxation Office(ATO) and I have an outstanding balance I need to pay. If I don't pay them I will get arrested. I said I have never received a letter from ATO. HE claims that ATO don't send out letters because I will be informed beforehand and I might run away.... The line was choppy, and he got angry and screamed at me if I can understand English. He sounded very Filipino... he hunged up..I rang ATO and it is definitely a SCAM!! 0283173198 is scam

A variation of this number would call me every day ridiculously early in the morning, when answered, only silence. Hang up and they would call back in an hour or the next day for a week, always silence. Blocked that number, they called from another variation doing the same thing, blocked that one too. Called from another similar number today but this time a pushy guy saying he was from a company called Swiss FX addressed me by name and said I had signed up for advice on marketing and stock trading. That I should listen to him otherwise I would never be successful. I said I hadn't signed up for anything like that and hung up and blocked this number too. Now I'm waiting for them to try with the next number because I don't think they will stop.

Fishy call. Claim to know my email address which I haven't been using over years. They also used similar numbers started with 0612 to make you think that they are in NSW or Canbera. Those numbers started with '0'are not in service if you do a reverse call. Looks like they are of a scamp group to fish people's details for unlawful purposes. Beware.

Repeated scam calls. If I answer - they introduce themselves as someone from some vague company who supposedly has heard I was looking for financial investment advice and start fishing for details. If I ask who exactly referred them - they never give specific details. Don't know where they got my number from but they know me by first name, so it's not random. When I ask them to never call again - they never listen. They call at all sorts of hours, previously there was a number from the UK with the same scammers, now it's this number from Australia. I live in NZ... I stopped answering, but they don't stop calling. I wish there was a way to bust them as I'm sure some people are falling for this and giving them details.

Interesting, I had the same experience. I was getting calls from UK (London) regarding the sale of stock options. When these calls finally stopped I started getting calls from the 02 8317 3198 number.
