Basically the same as all the other comments. He rang on the 18th July 2016 and the next day the 19th and left messages. On the 18th he wanted me to ring this number 02 8317 3355 and on the 19th wanted me to ring 02 8599 6163 ( The name he stated to contact was Jason McG ...not sure). I'm going to go to a public phone and ring him back and give him bogus bank account details and / or credit card details and let him see if he can F$%#K over the banks. With all this ASIO stuff and terrorism I think they will be able to trace and track the F%$#&*rs

Found two messages about tax evasion and courthouse left on my home machine, both prerecorded with a foreign Irish American accent. Says his name is Jason O'Connor from the ATO and can't even say Australian. Have now reported the scam to ATO. The interesting thing is I actually rang the ATO this morning at work to have a summary form posted and I now wonder whether someone else (like a call centre) accessed the recorded call and name, address, date of birth and other identity details I had to give to identify myself to the real ATO earlier the same day.

Person with thick, unidentified accent claiming that there is evidence of tax evasion and that an arrest warrant is being drawn up. Advises that I call the hotline provided (0285 996 163). Found out that it was a scam, but they keep calling with the same scaremongering recorded message.

It's SCAM. Same as other posts - this is a scam call. They called twice today, left a similar message, one about going to court, another about arresting "someone" for not paying a tax bill. Said they were from Sri Lanka Tax Office on one of the messages, the other was Tax Office. Didn't bother to call back as other posts have mentioned - would be a waste of time. The ATO generally sends a series of letters - not calls.

they called and i didn't answer. left a message saying "Australia Taxation office. The reason of this call is to enquiries your knowledge about a legal case which has deferred. Tried to call back but no one answer, did not left any call back number. I don't have any known legal case with ATO, and I am from Melbourne ........ i think it is a scam.

they called my son at home and gave this number to be called back. I called them back form a different number. They pretend to be an ATO. They however gave no name and the way they responded was very much like an call centre - scam thing This is likely a scam as they pretend to be the ATO and said to my son it is about a courtcase. Sorry I have no courtcase with the ATO. Also they answered the phone within 2 rings - very unusual for the ATO. He asked for from what number I called. When I pointed out that the aTO will ask for name and address he pretended not to understand and said we did not call you, must be a mistake. It was getting to difficult for him. Next time they call as ATO ask for name and registration number. I am dealing with scam calls and call centers several times in the week and you get a feeling for it.

Seems to be some call center, I can see more similar numbers (all the same range, just last 2 or 3 digits different) reported here already. No idea who is behind it, they left no message, no VM. I really don't answer unknown numbers, tried to dig some info about this number first on internet, but no luck so far. People did someone answer it?

Received a call from this number claiming to be from the ATO and that I'd filed my tax returns incorrectly and that they wanted to know if I had a 'criminal lawyer'. Given his thick Indian accent I told him I didn't believe him.
