There was a recorded message left on our home phone saying that they were from the ato legal department and that there was a tax fraud against my name and I had to call back to sort it out or I'll be arrested. Thought it was strange that they didn't say if it was for me or my wife.

This phone number is from a scammer who is currently doing the rounds claiming to be from a Commonwealth office or the ATO. The scammers may spin a range of stories about why an arrest warrant has been issued, including that you have failed to pay taxes. Scammers typically ask for money to be sent via wire transfer as it’s nearly impossible to recover money sent this way. They may also ask for people’s financial and other personal details to access their money and use this information to commit other scams. Hang up if they try to call again, or, tell them that the police are on their way to arrest THEM!

I received the same message on the answering machine left by a man with an American accent saying his name was Walter Watson. He said that he was from the Legal Department of the Australian Taxation Department and that there was a legal petition against our name for Tax fraud. Although he never actually mentioned what our name is. He said to phone him back urgently on 03 6107 9602 as a federal arrest warrant was going to be issued. Please everyone be very aware of these awful scammers.

No idea who is behind, but two very similar numbers called me this week : 0361079602 and 0361079607, apparently from the same call centre as the numbers are nearly identical. I didn't answer it and they left no message, people did someone speak with them? Who is it?
