I actually returned a call on this number, as I thought it work related. The person who picked up the call claimed to be from Melbourne IT, and that I'd likely missed a call in regards to an "upcoming" domain name registration expiration. (Sorry, didn't get names - but I think they'd change anyway). This immediately raised concern as my domain registration is with Enom, not Melbourne IT and I know registration is valid for almost another year. I was transferred to another call centre rep, who went through the same speel, but stopped her there. I called Melbourne IT and checked status, they had no record of me because my domain is not managed through them. I also called my actual web host and advised of activity. Please be wary of these types of scammers. Best rule of thumb, if you're not (ever) expecting the call - hang up.

I had a number of calls from this number from "Cherry" about Domain name renewal. They came some months before the domain name was up. After about the third call I got a bit suspicious and phoned Melbourne IT directly and spoke to a bloke, in Melbourne. He immediately confirmed that Cherry is a legitimate caller representing Melbourne IT and that they outsourced reminder calls (in the months leading up to renewal date) as a service to ensure people have plenty of time to renew the service. I think the call centre (Philippines?) do have incentives to renew directly, but I am now confident it is a legitimate caller. So, no worries!

Very persuasive and sounds very professional. Glad I found this site, otherwise I could have been handing over my CC details. She told me she was from Melbourne IT and that my webforwarding service was up for renewal. She offered me discounted rates for renewing for 2 -5 years. I don't think I have ever paid for webforwarding... so pleased I got her number and checked this site.

Calls from this number have numbered in the teens now. They say they are from Melbourne IT and that your domain name is about to expire. I rang Melbourne IT and they said they had nothing to do with them. My domain name is not due for renewal for almost a year!
