I first received a text from Big Village saying that I was part of a gov't survey. They rang about 5 days later. Once the caller identified Big Village, I ended the call. My impression was that I was being scammed.

This is Big Village (ABN 39 126 100 276). In the coming days we will call to see if you can take part in an important survey on behalf of a government agency. Called 3 times within 5 minutes then hasn’t called again in a few days. Other people have said they ask about your travel details, location, full name, age, marital status, children. Seems a bit fishy

I was asked for information concerning my travel habits over the last month, including some general information about where I'm based in Victoria (suburb), my age and marital status, and rough travel expenses on any trips. As far as I can tell, this is legitimately connected to the Australian government. Business Victoria, a small business website from the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions provides detailed information on Tourism Research Australia, and past survey results are publicly available on the TRA website. Of course, I can't confirm that the caller belongs to the survey team, but the questions asked closely fit the methodology of the National Visitor Survey. Seems ok but be careful

13/June/2022 - Received a call from 0386395130 from someone identifying themself as "Johnson" and claiming to be doing a Government Research Survey. As it was after 6pm, and also a Public Holiday, times when most all Australian Government agencies would certainly have been shut, it immediately alarmed me as I felt it could only be a scam. So I said nothing and just hung up!
