ATO tax audit scam (Scam call) reported by


Thick, foreign accent spoke on the phone and claimed to be working for the ATO. Asked the following, to which I gave details: First name? Last name? Address? Do you have a lawyer? (at this I answered yes, I do (though I don't), and because I couldn't think quickly enough to make up a lawyer's persona, and couldn't supply these details, they hung up on me. I suspect I would have got further if I simply said nope, don't have a lawyer.

Fake call from tax office (Robocall) reported by


Robocall purporting to be from Tax Office saying they were about to launch a legal case against me and to call back directly or face legal charges. Did not call back - no doubt it was a scam to get tax file number of banking details. Rather disconcerting but be assured ATO does not operate like this. Ignore and Block!
