Suspect False Charity asking for money (Telemarketer) reported by


Called and gave a sob story, tried to butter me up by saying I had the same name as his wife. Then only gave options to support the charity once off $75 or more. When I said I couldn't afford that he put on the hard sell and tried to get me to give more because "it was his birthday and once he met his quota he could go home to his wife and new baby". All seemed to convenient and made me suspicious so I hung up.

Rang the number back and it goes straight to busy tone. They didn't leave a message on my voicemail, so can't be that important, but guessing that it's some kind of telemarketer. I've blocked this number now.

Offers viagra asks for bank and card details. Have asked to stop calling and its been over a year now and i still get calls everyday I have blocked the number but i receive a message saying I've missed the call. Their voices sound asian it is usually a man but occasionally a women.

These scamming A**h*les are using "disconnected" numbers, this is AGAINST the ACMA rules and regulations for use. Try to get as much information as you can from them (WITHOUT AGREEING TO ANYTHING!!), then REPORT THEM to the ACMA!!

I have learnt that ANY call from either an Indian or an Asian involves either a scam for money or an attempt at identity theft. My advise to all is DO NOT LET THEM GET A FOOT IN THE DOOR. Always either hang up or use a loud whistle to blow into the phone. Do not entertain them by wasting your time.
