Scam call reported by Not stupid

There was a call on my answering machine, asking me to call Jason O'Connor from the ATO. I apparently had unpaid taxes and was advised there was a Sheriff coming to my house with a warrant for my arrest. I was so livid that elderly people would give in to this idiots, so I called. I told them I thought they were a scam and what I thought of them. They called me lots of colourful names. I have since reported them to the ATO!!

Friend got called today from this number. Nasty sounding with an Indian accent. Told my friend he was from the ATO and that he was about to get arrested for tax evasion but if they gave him $5000 it would be cancelled. They asked my friend to go to Coles and JB HIFi and buy $500 worth of itunes vouchers and read the numbers. He was just giving them the second number when fortunately his phone went flat. My friend has bi-polar and has some money problems so he was fair game for this scam.

Caller asked to speak to (last name). Sounded odd from the start considering he didn't even ask for Mr or Mrs. Caller stated he was calling from the ATO. He then asked for my bank details! -ha! As if I'm going to give you that information! Total scam!

Arrived home to message from a "Conner" (very strong Idian accent) said he was ATO and I was about to have an arrest warrant issued for tax evasion. Did not asked for a name just straight into scam.

Got a voicemail from a "J. O'C. from the ATO" advising me that I was going to get arrested blah blah blah... Well - I decided to call him back on 02 8312 3262 - eventually I got the opportunity to leave him a message - one that contained quite a few expletives! If this "J." calls simply rip into him - it's good fun! And they deserve it...

Came home today to a message from a Jason O'Connor from the ATO stating that I was up for a tax evasion and that a warrant would be issued for my arrest and before that happened, to ring him on 02 8312 3262. Suffice to say I checked up on this number here and discovered that other people have been contacted by this chap. Since he has given his name which could be bogus and a phone number, I think I'll pass it on to the police and ATO.

Seems to be some call center, I can see more similar numbers (all the same range - 02831732xx, just last 2 or 3 digits different) reported here already - stocks and telemarketing mostly, sometimes as fake tax call. No idea who is behind it, they left no message, no VM. I really don't answer unknown numbers, tried to dig some info about this number first on internet, but no luck so far. People did someone answer it?
