Definitely all the signs of a scam, the caller didn't even give me chance to ask a question - just spat out his blurb, gave the number and put the phone down. The ATO would NEVER deal with you in this way!

Definitely a scam from overseas. Person says he was from the ATO, but I told him to never call again. Then he called back 10 times in quick succession and used severely foul language.

This is a scam call. Not only it is a cold call, multiple similar messages claiming to be from the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions or the Australian Taxation Office stating that 'there is a complaint made against me and there will be a warrant for my arrest' is left in my message box. No government officials will send automated messages threateningly to a person whose name is not even stated in the message. Ignore and dont fall for these scams. There are multiple variations of these messages and various similar numbers that are all scam related.

Fake Australian Taxation Office (ATO) (Scam call) reported by


Fake/scam australian taxation office calls. They claim you owe money for fraudulent tax returns. Initially i just spammed called them back and calling them out. Then a funny thing happened. He turned the call into a conversation. I spoke to this guy for about 15 minutes and he told me how it works. They call from india posing as the ato. Theyll ask you to transfer money via western union or if they are realy at a lose end ask for your credit card details. Told me that australians are stupid and fall for these alot. By the sounds of calls in the background he'd be right. They can make upto 30k a day if they push hard. Not sure who that money really goes to but he claimed it was his. Hes scammed the usa canada and the uk. Now his assigned Australia. He asked me what our government was doing about these scams and i told him what can they do when you fake phone numbers and your overseas, nothing. He laughed and said thats right. And just talked like freinds catching up. I thought well if hes on the phone to me thats one less in the phone to you. Dont fall for these scams. They are using lots of phone numbers that may or may not work when you call them back.

People did someone answer this number? I had few missed calls from this one, probably some call centre robocaller testing my number? I don't answer unknown numbers and they left no message. I was trying to dig some info on the internet, don't want to call them back until I know who might be calling but no luck - similar numbers are marked as fake ATO calls, be aware. Some idea who is it? Blocking this one now - I have been using the ShouldIAnswer mobile application from these pages, works fine, can stop such calls and also a range of numbers (very useful for call centres). No problems.
