Fraudulent ATO call from an Indian sounding bloke (Unsolicited call) reported by Emma

I had the same message as Graham and Sam. This Indian bloke who's name was "Jake Dawson" from the "Tax Crime Investigation Unit" of the ATO told me that my husband was going to be arrested for non payment of taxes. I told him that all taxes had been recently paid and that this was definitely a scam and he shouldn't be frightening old ladies with this stuff. I am not an old lady but I know a scam when I hear one. I called the ATO and reported him and then I called him back and told him he was more likely to be arrested than me or my husband! He and others like him are utter tossers. I asked him why he didn't have a 1300 or a 1800 number and he was extremely rude to me. I have just tried to call him back for fun to tell him that we haven't been arrested yet, but sadly his number is engaged! The big concern I have with this sort of thing is for others who are not savvy and who may think this type of call is genuine - if they can understand what they are saying of course!

Scam call reported by Dee

I had exactly the same as Graham, voicemail claiming I was the subject of an investigation for tax fraud and if I didn't call back I would have to face legal proceedings. I reported to ACCC scam watch.

Just had the same, message left on answer machine. I called them back, crazy, same person put me through to himself! Im getting arrested at 5pm, wish me luck!!
