Answered the call - I has just updated my plan online - the guy was confirming the update and tried to sell me a watch, After the call I looked up the number and saw the below reviews, I messaged optus and they advised it was a scam call, no one had contacted me from optus. Didn't give this guy any details so not sure what type of scam they are running

This is not actually from the legit company optus but a scam using optus as the 'company' to get call backs. As a employee of optus, I called our customer care to verify this as I had also just received this call. The team member checked the number for me and verified it is not from Optus itself. Make sure when answering phone calls your never give put any information regarding yourself or family/friends and when in doubt call the actual company back and not the number the scam provided you with.

This was a legitimate & expected call from Optus Support's Case Manager / representative regarding an NBN Connectivity issue I had been experiencing. Unfortunately the Hiya Smart Call feature on my phone erroneously labelled the call as "SMARTFITZ" ... not sure what that's all about.

unable to confirm as the number is listed but it's a cold call using Optus resources. she said it was about my phone upgrade. I asked what the purpose of the call was as I had completed an upgrade and was told it could not be revealed without my DOB. I said no. asked her what her DOB was she chuckled said she could give me a number to call back I said that would no be helpful and again what was the reason for the call as my order was placed. it may have been genuine but it seemed like a scam. I hung up. I don't know what the celler could have needed from me.

Caller did require identification details but was able to confirm that I was an existing customer migrating to Optus. Asked simple questions about whether I wanted additional services, which I refused and the customer service rep advised that they will process the order. Legitimate

I rang Optus and I wanted to order a replaclacement Fetch remote. $30 and they wanted details to run a credit check for that asking what my phone number was when it is with them. Felt all scammy and I said no then these guys called and didn't leave a message No idea if the remote is going to arrive

It turns out this is Optus finalising a contract renewal but all the onus is on you to provide answers to questions that a scammer would ask and they refused to answer any of my questions. After finally agreeing to give my date of birth, under protest, and then confirm my phone number, I hung up when she wanted my driver's licence or passport number. After doing some checking I have found it to be a true Optus call centre but when we are daily seeing people being scammed and told not to give information over the phone to people we don't know, can they not find a better way to do this!

Totally agree with this comment, such a clunky experience and hard to decipher whether a scam or not. It is indeed legit but a bad experience all round. Double handling data you've already supplied, indian call centre, noisy background. Bad ordering experience.

"Optus" NBN (Telemarketer) reported by


Got a call 15 minutes after placing an online order for NBN so i thought it was fine to answer the confirmation questions. But then he asked about a few more details and i said that they should have that as i am an exisitng customer. He could not even verify that i was an existing cable customer transferring to NBN, not a new customer. Then he started asking credit check questions so i got suspicious and quite angry at them and hung up. Rang Optus directly and they had no record of the call and no one knew whether they used an external agency/ call centre to conduct NBN signup calls. I hope it is legitimate - i didnt give any CC details or anything too personal but its either dodgy (perhaps unlikely given that it was a direct follow up to an online order) or one part of Optus having no idea what the others are doing, which is quite feasible!

This is a legitimate call. As I contacted Optus and asked them to have someone contact me regarding my NBN and Optus complaint. I asked the caller to identify what my complaint was to check the call was legitimate and she was able to tell me what it was about and when I lodged my complaint...she then sorted it out for me.

I can understand peoples concern as hard to verify caller. The call actually came through day after I requested a switch to the nbn with Optus. I gave ID info after checking on this site. All these combined gave be confidence to continue the call. Received a text and email from Optus within seconds of completing call. Legitimate caller but would not have answered if they were not my internet service provider.
